Wrist and Hand Joints
1.Movements
- Extension - moving the back of the hand
and/or phalanges toward the posterior or
dorsal aspect of the forearm.
- Flexion - moving the palm of the hand
and/or the phalanges toward the anterior
aspect of the forearm.
Abduction (radial deviation) - movement of
the thumb side of the hand toward the lateral
aspect or radial side of the forearm.
Adduction (ulnar deviation) - movement of
the little finger side of the hand toward the
medial aspect or ulnar side of the forearm.
Wrist Flexors
Originate at the Medial
Epicondyle of the humerus
Flexor carpi radialis – wrist flexion and radial deviation
Flexor carpi ulnaris – wrist flexion and ulnar deviation
